BBC programme criticises working conditions at some Indian tea plantations

A BBC Radio 4 programme, titled File on Four “The Cost of a Cuppa” will air tonight, Tuesday 8th September, at 8:00pm. The programme will highlight the plight of workers on some tea plantations in Assam, India and the working conditions reportedly leading to poor health and high maternal and infant mortality.

We have contacted the sTodays.Select.80.tea.bags.and.40.tea.bagsupplier of our Today’s SELECT Teabags, Typhoo, and they assure us that their Plantations reach the highest ethical standards, the estates are audited and all reach Rain Forest Alliance standards.

As well as sourcing the finest tea for their blends, they also look at every aspect of life on the tea estate. Living and working conditions play a big part in the selecting of their suppliers – it’s all part of their integrated Quality Assurance Programme, which was set up back in 1992.
