Kitwave Wholesale Group excited to join Today’s Group

Kitwave Wholesale Group, an independent UK wholesaler of FMCG products, has announced that it will be joining the UK’s largest independent buying consortium, the Today’s Group from January 2018.  Over the last five years through strategic acquisitions Kitwave has successfully increased its turnover to over £350 million. The Group now employs over 1,000 people across the UK with nationwide coverage.

For the last 30 years Kitwave has been a member of Sugro, the ambient impulse focused buying group.  However, as the group has expanded more of its operations are focused toward the grocery, export and on-trade markets.   As well as its long standing ambient division, Kitwave now also has strong presence in the frozen and on-trade / foodservice sectors.

Mike Young, Commercial Director of Kitwave Group said “As a Group we have expanded dramatically in recent times and will continue to do so in the future.  To aid this strategic growth the Today’s Group offering provides a perfect partnership for our needs.  With strength in ambient impulse and growth in export, grocery, foodservice and on-trade, Kitwave requires a partner for a wide range of needs and we are excited to build that relationship with everyone at the Today’s Group”.

John Schofield from Todays commented “We welcome Kitwave to the Today’s family and look forward to working with the team to create a collaboration that is beneficial for both parties”
Mike Young also added “Kitwave has a strong relationship with its supplier base and looks forward to building on these strong ties with brand owners in the future.  The development of our commercial team over recent years along with a reputation of working with brand performance criteria has provided a strong platform for enhanced working partnerships in the future.”

In February last year Kitwave’s management team completed a refinancing deal which saw the business raise funds from US investors, Pricoa Capital Group and Allstate Investments, for a minority stake, in order to continue pursuing its acquisition strategy.  This followed in Novembers with the acquisition of H B Clark a Wakefield based on-trade wholesaler.
Kitwave’s accelerated growth has been recognised again last year by The Sunday Times Fast-track 250, and Squirrels UK, part of the Kitwave Wholesale Group has received the prestigious 2016 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade – this was in recognition of achieving outstanding growth in export sales over the last 3 years.
